Gothic Fantasy Theater - December 2004 - page 3

Evolution filled the client’s equipment rack with the latest gear that HDTV junkies demand. The Samsung TS-160 high definition receiver pulls in a stunning HD signal that is fed directly to the Runco VX100c DLP video projector via HDMI. To handle the component and composite video switching, as well as surround sound processing, Evolution used the extremely versatile Integra RDC-7 preamp/processor that feeds audio to the mega beefy Sunfire Cinema Seven amplifier. The Integra DPS 8.3 DVD-Audio/SACD combo player gives the client the ability to watch DVDs or transform his room into a stereo or surround sound audio listening room as well. A Pioneer DVR-310s DVD recorder and a JVC HR-S9502U S-VHS VCR rounds out the gear in the custom cabinetry below the screen.

A pair of Sunfire True Sub Architectural subwoofers keeps the low end tight and powerful and a full complement of Triad Bronze in-wall speakers sound crystal clear, even behind the opulent fabric walls.

All mid- to large-scale home theaters meet with technological challenges. Because of the poor quality of California’s AC power on most days, the client’s Runco projector was having intermittent problems with shutting down that could have possibly damaged the expensive bulb. Jay at Evolution Audio Video added both a Richard Gray’s Power Company RGPC 400S and a computer-grade battery backup, and the problem has vanished. Feeding your equipment more consistent power is not just a performance feature, it is essential to the overall functionality of a theater. Another area that is not often talked about is the need for keeping your electronics physically cool. Most projectors have fans and some even come with “hush boxes” to quiet them down. In this gothic theater, extensive ventilation is used to pull cool air from the theater up through the rack. That hotter air is then silently pumped into the attic, which allows for the client’s equipment to run successfully even during the most demanding movie moments and should help extend his gear’s life for years more than if it wasn’t vented.

With a client who has vision and the ambition to make his dream a reality, anything is possible. With the technological design and excellent equipment choices, Evolution Audio Video was able to make HDTV and movies grace the client’s screen with vivid video and encompassing surround sound. With an artistic eye and out-of-the-box solutions, Judson Davis helped add to the client’s dream to create a room that the entire family never wants to leave.
