March 2007 - Home Automation Part 2 - page 3
Is That All There Is?
Suffice to say, there are a lot of technologies vying for the attention of the do-it-yourselfer looking to automate his or her home. What weve covered here is hardly an exhaustive list, but it does reveal some of the ways you can easily add whole-house control and A/V distribution while keeping your own costs and labor to a minimum. Of course, given how dramatically the industry is evolving, something even cooler could be waiting round the bend.
Automation is slowly becoming ubiquitous, seeping into our homes in ways we dont even realize. Builders and architects are beginning to see the value of adding automation systems during construction, and it will continue to grow more affordable to go the custom-install route and let someone else help you design a smarter home. But there will always be those and you know who you are who want to do it yourselves. For you, the opportunities have never been better.
